- Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Urumqi
Today your guide and driver will pick you up from the airport or the railway station upon your arrival in Urumqi. Then we will start the Xinjiang tour with a visit to the Xinjiang Regional Museum, where the ancient dried corpse of Loulan beauty, the delicate brocades of the Han Dynasty (202 BC - 220 AD) and many Chinese historical relics are exhibited. Afterwards, you will be escorted to check into a nice hotel. Have a good rest!
Day 2 Urumqi
Today, you will be accompanied on a visit to the Heavenly Lake, which features a classic plateau landscape formed of snowy mountains, glaciers and alpine lakes. To top it off, the cruise on the Heavenly Lake will leave you with an unforgettable memory.
After lunch, your guide will escort you to the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar - the biggest Islamic bazaar in China, in which the most famous spot is the 80-meter (263 feet) high Sightseeing Tower of the Silk Road. In the bazaar, you can have a taste of the Xinjiang delicacy and appreciate the traditional local handicrafts. Finally, you will be escorted to the hotel to rest and also prepare for the coming 2 days Turpan tour.

After lunch, your guide will escort you to the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar - the biggest Islamic bazaar in China, in which the most famous spot is the 80-meter (263 feet) high Sightseeing Tower of the Silk Road. In the bazaar, you can have a taste of the Xinjiang delicacy and appreciate the traditional local handicrafts. Finally, you will be escorted to the hotel to rest and also prepare for the coming 2 days Turpan tour.

Day 3 Urumqi - Turpan
In the morning, we will set out on a Turpan tour from Urumqi, driving for about 3.5 hours. Upon arrival, you will first visit the Ancient City of Jiaohe, which is the world's largest city built entirely of the earth. Jiaohe also used to be a prosperous town along the Silk Road, which is the oldest and longest international trading route in the world.
The Karez System and the Emin Minaret are the next destinations of this northern Xinjiang tour to Turpan. The Karez System is a great project in ancient China, which was used to irrigate the farmland in the desert area. The Emin Minaret is a unique Islamic tower with more than two hundreds years' history. Your Turpan tour itinerary today will end after your guide helps you check into a downtown hotel.

Day 4 Departure from Turpan
On the second day of your Turpan tour, you will visit the Ancient City of Gaochang, the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves and the Tuyugou Valley in company with your guide. With two well-preserved temples and a square on the site, the Ancient City of Gaochang is the biggest historical relic in western China. The Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves lean against a cliff, boasting Buddhist grottoes and religious frescos. The Tuyugou Valley, also called the Chinese Mecca, is the oldest Uyghur village in Xinjiang, where old villagers speak Uyghur language and believe in the Islam. Until now, the main transportation has been by a donkey-pulled cart. As you take a ride, you will be able to see the Flaming Mountain, also named the Red Mountain.
After finishing your northern Xinjiang tour to Turpan, your guide will escort you to the railway station and say goodbye.

· Leaving from Turpan, you can travel to Dunhuang. But you may need to stay one more night in Turpan and then take a 3.5-hour high-speed train to Dunhuang the next day. You can also head for the airport in Urumqi where there are frequent flights to other cities.
· If you prefer to do further explorations of the Silk Road, you can go from Turpan to Korla, Kuqa, Aksu, Kashgar... please feel free to contact your tour consultant if you want to extend your Xinjiang tour itinerary.
